As of 1st of September there have been some changes to the visa subclasses and the points test:
- English points awarded to candidates from English-speaking countries ie UK, Canada, US, New Zealand is now 15 and not 20. However, if you need an extra 10 points, you can complete an English Language test. Please see www.ielts.org.
- You can no longer claim MODL (demand) points unless your recent work experience (ie one of the last 4 years) is in an occupation that is in demand as well
- You can no longer lodge the bond of AUD$100,000 in order to gain 5 points - this regulation has fallen away.
- It is now possible to lodge all applications online

If you have a trade and are considering getting your skills assessed in order to apply for migration, please note that you must have formal qualifications (eg City and Guilds) in order to qualify. Welcome to Romania and Bulgaria, the latest members of the European Union. 8 million Bulgarians and 22 million Romanians joined the European Union as citizens on 01 January 2007. The EU now consists of 27 Member States, and represents approximately half a billion citizens. Croatia could be allowed to join in 2010 however further EU expansion is thought to be highly controversial. | 19/12/2006 |
